Tools and Materials Needed:How to Replace Honda TRX400 Stator

  1. New stator compatible with your Honda TRX400 model
  2. Socket wrench set
  3. Allen wrench set
  4. Screwdrivers (both Phillips and flathead)
  5. Torque wrench
  6. Clean rags
  7. Service manual (optional but highly recommended)

Step 1: Preparation

  1. Ensure your ATV is turned off and parked on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Allow the engine to cool down if it has been recently running.
  3. Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical mishaps during the replacement process.
  4. Familiarize yourself with the location of the stator on your Honda TRX400. It’s typically located on the side of the engine, beneath the left engine cover.

Step 2: Remove Left Engine Cover

  1. Use the appropriate tools to remove the bolts or screws securing the left engine cover in place.
  2. Gently pry the cover away from the engine, taking care not to damage the gasket or any surrounding components.
  3. Set the cover aside in a safe place.

Step 3: Disconnect Wires

  1. Identify the wires connected to the stator.
  2. Carefully disconnect these wires, ensuring you note their positions or take a photo for reference during reassembly.
  3. Inspect the wires for any signs of damage or wear. Replace if necessary.

Step 5: Install New Stator

  1. Position the new stator in place within the engine casing, aligning it properly with the mounting holes.
  2. Secure the new stator in place using the bolts or screws removed earlier. Tighten them securely.

Step 6: Reconnect Wires

  1. Reconnect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new stator, ensuring proper connections.
  2. If necessary, replace any wire connectors or terminals that show signs of damage.

Step 7: Replace Left Engine Cover

  1. Clean the mating surfaces of the left engine cover and engine casing to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealant to the mating surface of the left engine cover, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Carefully position the left engine cover back onto the engine casing, ensuring it aligns properly.
  4. Secure the left engine cover in place using the bolts or screws removed earlier. Tighten them to the manufacturer’s specifications using a torque wrench.

Step 8: Final Checks

  1. Double-check all connections and fasteners to ensure everything is secure.
  2. Reconnect the battery.
  3. Start your ATV and verify that the new stator is functioning properly.

Additional Tips:

  • Refer to your ATV’s service manual for specific instructions and torque values.
  • Take your time and work carefully to avoid damaging any components.
  • If you’re unsure about any step, don’t hesitate to consult with a professional mechanic or refer to online tutorials/resources.
