A sensor-related fault code is a starting point for diagnosis. It is not an automatic instruction to buy a sensor. Keep the recorded code and test results, establish the faulty circuit or component, then compare the replacement carefully.

Keep the diagnostic evidence
Record the exact code, symptoms and conditions when the fault appears. Clearing a code before it is investigated can remove useful context. The workshop procedure determines which power, earth, wiring or signal checks apply to that sensor.

Identify the sensor's job
A camshaft-position sensor and an oxygen sensor measure different things and require different tests. A broad description such as 'engine sensor' is not sufficient for ordering. Confirm the component's location and original reference, as well as the complete motorcycle model and year.

Inspect the connections first
A damaged connector or harness can affect a sensor circuit. Ask whether the relevant wiring checks were completed before condemning the component. Do not apply power or probe terminals using a guessed pinout; use the correct wiring information and suitable test equipment.

Compare the replacement details
Check the connector, cable length where applicable, mounting or thread arrangement and original reference. For an oxygen sensor, verify the intended position and application rather than assuming all threaded sensors interchange. For a position sensor, compare the body and mounting as well as the plug.
