Setting Up Your Motorcycle Work Area: Stands, Mats and Tyre Warmers

Start with space and a stable surface

Allow room to position the bike and operate the equipment without pulling cables or moving other objects out of the way. Keep the surface clean and check the stand manufacturer's requirements. A service mat does not establish that a floor or stand arrangement is suitable for lifting a motorcycle.

Match the paddock stand to the bike

Check load rating, support points and the required adapters or bobbins. Front and rear stands are different tools; follow the stand's instructions for use and any supporting equipment required. Do not rely on a broad 'all makes' description without checking the interfaces on your motorcycle.

Choose a mat by size and care requirements

Check the listed dimensions against your parking or working area. Confirm the supplied material and cleaning instructions. A pit mat is not a substitute for a drain tray, appropriate spill handling or a properly supported motorcycle. Choose the design you like once the practical requirements are covered.

Treat tyre warmers as a separate setup

Match the tyre and wheel sizes, warmer specification and electrical supply. Use the tyre manufacturer's temperature guidance and the warmer's instructions; there is no universal setting for every tyre. Inspect the equipment and cable condition and keep the operating area clear.
