What the Yamaha R3 Starter Motor Does
Your Yamaha R3 Starter Motor is the electric motor that spins the engine over until it fires. When you press the start button, current runs through the starter relay to the motor, which drives the starter gear into the crankshaft and cranks the engine. It’s a high-current component that works hard for a few seconds at a time, and the brushes, bushes and windings inside wear out with age and use.
