PLAN THE JOB
Choose with confidence.
Start with the right checks.
A new belt is only part of a successful CVT repair. The correct application, sound clutch surfaces and the specified fitting procedure matter just as much. Use this checklist before choosing a belt for an ATV or UTV.

01
Record when the problem happens
Note whether the machine hesitates when moving off, behaves differently under load or shows visible belt damage. Stop using a machine with serious drive problems and have the CVT assessed. Symptoms alone do not distinguish a worn belt from a clutch or other driveline fault.
02
Match the reference and the vehicle
Record the full model, year and variant, including engine size. Compare the existing belt reference with the individual listing and the manufacturer's catalogue. A similar-looking belt, or one listed for another machine from the same brand, is not enough to establish fitment.
03
Inspect the system around the belt
Before fitting the replacement, assess the clutch sheaves, alignment and any debris from the previous belt using the workshop instructions. Oil contamination and damaged components need attention. Ask what caused the old belt to fail, especially if it failed shortly after a previous replacement.
04
Handle and fit it correctly
Avoid forcing, sharply bending or twisting the belt. Use the specified clutch-opening method and the belt supplier's installation and running-in guidance. Do not apply a generic speed or time schedule to every belt. Gates' CVT technical bulletin explains why careful handling, clutch preparation and break-in matter; the instructions for your supplied belt take priority.
05
Choose the listing for your application
Our range includes Yamaha Grizzly, Yamaha Viking and Polaris Ranger belt listings. Each has its own application details. Confirm the original reference and current availability on the product page before ordering; the shared guide does not imply the belts interchange.

Questions before you order
Should I replace the belt without checking the clutches?
No. Inspect the surrounding system so a new belt is not exposed to the same unresolved problem.
Do all belts need the same break-in?
Follow the belt supplier and vehicle manufacturer's instructions for the actual combination being fitted.
